SAVE MUSI PART 2

To celebrate the Sumpah Pemuda day on 28th October 2013, U-Gen Palembang continued small action that once did in the 68th Independence Day of Republic of Indonesia, called SAVE MUSI. To interpret that Sumpah Pemuda day, on Sunday, 27 Oktober 2013, U-Gen Palembang gathered together to do small action that give benefit to many people. The beauty of Musi River and the Ampera Bridge are the icons of Palembang city. Therefore, as a concern to continue Save Musi, that is not only to make it beautiful, but also to instill the values of caring for our environment.

Palembang grabbed the attention of the world after finishing Asean Games and Islamic Solidarity Games. However, prior to these successfully held international events, Palembang seemed like not having any lack because it is already well organized and always have many local and international visitors come and enjoy the beauty of Ampera Bridge and Musi River. But, when we see what surrounding Musi River, there is a poor condition that does not reflect the beauty of Musi River. Benteng Kuto Besak and Musi River are the icons of Palembang that should be free of any kind of rubbish, but in fact what we see there is the opposite. That is why, U-Gen Palembang prove their love and care to our nation with this action. 

Right at 9 am, U-Gen Palembang started with small action by cleaning that area. The place is so closed from the Ampera Bridge that makes many people come to enjoy this place. Many people throw out the rubbish directly to the river. Through this action, we tried to educate them by being an example. So, the societies are more aware towards Musi River and feel uneasy to throw out the rubbish carelessly. U-gen Palembang finished that service at 12am.

The goal of this action is to encourage the society to keep the river’s cleanliness and beauty, and to educate them about living for others value. Through this small action, we hope many youths want to give, share, and do something for others. This service was so simple but it has a positive meaning as it gives a big impact to many people.

The advantage of keeping river’s cleanliness is not only for the society that surround the river, but also for the ecosystem itself. It will give impact to ecosystems that live there. By cleaning the river, we are also participating in avoiding flood. Indirectly, we helped many people. The sense of togetherness from the members is the key of this action. Besides, the other factors such as intention and awareness are also important to drive us to do something. It is a proof that without much money we still can help others. Only with effort and good intention, all of that will be accomplished. With this small action, we hope many youths want to give, share, and do something to their environment.
